Thrilling Racing and Car Shows
Elkhart Lake Historic Racing
Here’s a quick history plus a few highlights of Road America and classic car shows.
History. In 1950 through 1952, Elkhart Lake hosted open road sports car races which were planned and operated by the members of the Chicago Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). These events were intended to improve the economic development of the Elkhart Lake area.
Our Jay Lee Inn is on the path of the original race track for the 1951 and 1952 races. For reasons you can imagine, open street racing was discontinued after 1952. Yet the spirit of racing would not die! It vibrantly lived on in the community. In 1955, the current Road America race track opened its gates to highly and sometimes wildly enthusiastic local and national fans. And the excitement is just as strong today. http://www.historicracecircuits.com/
Road America. Did you know that Road America is the world’s fastest permanent road course? And it’s located here in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin – midway between Milwaukee and Green Bay. It’s five minutes from Jay Lee Inn and only minutes more from the shores of Elkhart Lake and Lake Michigan.
Classic car shows. Fascinating for everyone, these happen often throughout the summer months. You’ll see your favorite classics. And you’ll spot classics you haven’t seen in years. And the people who call Elkhart Lake home? They love these cars too. They truly enjoy the industry that has throbbed and roared full-throttled in the heart of the fun at Elkhart Lake.
